My Title for this blog was referenced at our IHC meeting this week, and it feels very relevant for me, especially this year.
Life is a cycle of up and down, in and out, and all around, sometimes not gaining much ground. I have very much learned how important balancing the balls of life in kung fu can be this year. I am referring more to the physical side of this for today.
Some days I feel stronger, and am able to do more forms. Those are the days that the ‘form balls’ are in the air and being balanced as needed. Other days the twists, turns and strength are not an option, so those balls fall to the ground, and the ‘physical number balls’ take there place in the air. In saying this, the dropped balls are not forgotten about, but rather at a resting period. On really good days I am able to balance both at the same time which feels great, but then generally causes a few days of rest for multiple forms reps. Even on days of dropped balls, I am still doing reps, but they are slower, sometimes modified, and some days only mentally done.
The most important lesson I have learned this year is when to rest which balls while still consistently progressing in all areas. It has not been easy lessons to learn, and is always a work in progress. This has also provided great lessons in building my mental fortitude with kung fu.
We are a different person every single day, therefore need to build that person. Never quit, always strive for Mastery, and always doing my best to recognize mediocrity.
